Future Music
Music has long been an Industry capable of turning over millions of pounds profits for the majors player (EMI, SONY BMG, Warner) in the scene. These major player control and decide what music we should like, when in reality, most of us hate the music which is referred to as “pop music”, short for popular music. Many people detest the excuse for music that gets played on the radio although there is a high percentage on people that dont actually realise there is more to music that “pop”.
Underground genres are on the rise, all it takes is for the people to make a stand. Stop buying the music that we are spoon fed and support the people who are trying to make a difference and develop new age, real popular music for the world.
Downloading has obviously had a vigorous effect on the availability of music and although the general consensus would state that file sharing is bad for the industry, I personally think that the readily available vast collection of music that is available to us all can encourage us to listen to music we would previously have left alone. As a result of this I now have much broader horizons and have visited at least 10 concerts this year that I definatley wouldn’t have if their music wasn’t available for me to check it out. At many of these concerts I have purchased memorabilia and music either on vinyl or CD and I would like to think that many people still do, in support of the cause.
So… I think people should download freely as long as they are willing to support the cause so that real musicians don’t die out simply because its no longer worth it to them, in saying that true musician can’t die out because they are in it for the passion of music, not for the greed of material possessions.
